Removing wiring harness

This was one of the things I worried most about removing. I’ve had a some electrical problems with my duc in the past years.
Most of them probably related to my datatool-alarm, some due to the harsh climate in Norway, and some due to the build quality of the harness.

Removing slipons and exhaust headers

The first part was easy, the slipons came off really easy.

To remove the header pipes I had bring out my Dremel:

after getting the rear wheel up in the air, its time to remove it:

The wheel is to be replaced with a 5.5″ allowing me to use a 180 tyre:

I am well aware that this will affect the geometry of my duc. Time will tell if I keep this mod. It’s hard to tell from the pictures, but the new wheel is from a SS 900, which has a larger rear axle (25 mm vs my 17.5 mm) so i’ll have to reuse the spacers from the 4.5″ wheel:

Survive without a race stand

Before tearing the bike apart, i needed a safe way of lifting it.
Here’s how it can be done without a race stand:

Pull the bike up on a brick, place two jack stands, and kick the brick away:

place the brick behind the frontwheel to keep it from rolling

So I’ve decided to rip my bike apart, and do a complete rebuild.

Here are some historical images before I start ripping it to pieces. (At least I have something to look at if I fail completely putting it back together)

My first image of the duc, the only modifications done are high mounted slipons, tach/speedo and mirrors from Ducati Performance:

My next mod was to clean up the frame by removing all cable ties and relocating the wires
I never really liked the gold colored frame, so I decided to paint it black. At this time I didn’t have the guts to rip the bike apart, so the painting of the frame was done while the frame was still mounted to the bike!! A real PITA, but I ended up quite pleased:

After that, I chopped the tail, changed to miniblinkers, got a white glass for the rearlight, swapped the rearlight with LED’s (lights, brakelights and blinkers all-in-one), added a bellypan and lots more stuff I can’t remember.
